The office of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Saturday that the Prime Minister will travel to Egypt to attend the “Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit,” where leaders are expected to sign a US-mediated agreement aimed at ending the Gaza war.

The first phase of the plan is scheduled to begin with the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees by Monday, which Britain described as a “historic turning point” after two years of war.

The office stated that Starmer will praise the role of former US President Donald Trump and the diplomatic efforts made by Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey in mediating the agreement.

Starmer is expected to call for continued international coordination to implement the next phase, which includes deploying a mission to monitor the ceasefire and forming a transitional government in Gaza.

According to the statement, Starmer will reaffirm the “steadfast support” provided by Britain to help stop the fighting and deliver humanitarian aid.
