The European Investment Bank announced a €500 million loan to expand the road network in Romania.

In a statement on Wednesday, the bank said the funding will contribute to the construction of 122 kilometers of highways between the cities of Pitești and Sibiu, an extension that is part of the Trans-European Transport Network. The project aims to reduce travel times, enhance road safety, and expand economic connectivity.

Vice President of the European Investment Bank, Ioannis Tsakiris, said, “This is an investment in people, safety, and opportunities, through faster, safer, and more affordable travel for people and goods.”

He added, “We are helping to boost regional competitiveness and connect communities across Europe,” noting that this project is a strong example of how European cohesion translates into lasting prosperity, inclusion, and shared growth.
