The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Israel on Tuesday to take urgent measures to prevent the deterioration of the situation in the Gaza Strip. The statement urged Israel to stop the escalation, implement a ceasefire, and ensure unhindered humanitarian aid access to all those in need. It referenced recent UN warnings about a record-scale famine in Gaza, highlighting the highest level of food insecurity. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described the situation as ‘hell’ and reminded Israel of its obligations as an occupying power to provide food to the population. The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees also warned about the worsening conditions and the risk to the lives of 132,000 children under five, including 41,000 suffering from severe malnutrition.

The Russian Foreign Ministry concluded by noting that UN Security Council members plan to attempt adopting a resolution focusing on overcoming the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, with Moscow expecting its approval.
