Russian authorities have opened a criminal investigation into an attack on nuclear facilities following an attempted drone strike by the Ukrainian armed forces on the Smolensk nuclear power plant, according to Russian Investigative Committee spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko. The Russian Defense Ministry announced last weekend that drone defense systems repelled the Ukrainian drone attack on the Smolensk nuclear power plant in the Smolensk region of Russia. Petrenko stated that a criminal case was opened for a terrorist act involving an assault on atomic energy facilities, related to the Ukrainian armed forces’ attempted attack on a nuclear facility in Desnogorsk city, Smolensk region, on the 17th of this month. The investigation is working to identify the Ukrainian military personnel involved in the attack.
Additionally, a case was opened regarding an attack by a group of individuals that caused serious consequences, following attacks by the Ukrainian armed forces on the Astrakhan, Voronezh, and Nizhny Novgorod regions two days earlier.
