US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reviewed in a phone call with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdel Aty the elements of President Donald Trump’s plan to stop the war in Gaza.
The spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tamim Khalaf, said that Rubio reviewed Trump’s plan elements to stop the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip, release hostages, allow aid access, and prevent annexation or displacement.
Rubio expressed the United States’ eagerness to intensify and continue joint coordination with the Egyptian side in the coming phase, praising Egypt’s leading role in achieving peace and stability in the region.
For his part, Abdel Aty expressed appreciation for the sincere efforts of the US president to stop the war in Gaza, expressing Egypt’s hope for a swift end to the war on the Gaza Strip, de-escalation, and restoring calm, stability, and security in the region.
Abdel Aty stressed the necessity of allowing humanitarian aid in quantities commensurate with the humanitarian disaster, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, no annexation of the West Bank, its organic connection to Gaza, and preventing any displacement of the Palestinian people from their land.
He confirmed the importance of creating a political horizon based on the two-state solution that meets the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to self-determination and establishing their state, achieving security, peace, and stability for both the Palestinian and Israeli peoples.
