Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister, held a meeting today to review the progress of the construction project of the western arc of the General Omar Suleiman Axis in Alexandria Governorate. The meeting was attended by Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, Minister of Industry and Transport; Major General Mahmoud Nassar, Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction; Major General Moamen Sayed Mohamed, Assistant Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority for Roads Affairs; Engineer Amr Abbas, Deputy Head of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority for Market Regulation and Governance; and Engineer Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Executive Deputy for Projects at the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.
Dr. Madbouly emphasized the importance of having the road network surrounding Alexandria Airport (formerly Borg El Arab Airport) at the highest standards, as part of the focus on airports as key elements attracting tourist movement. He pointed out that the government is currently working to increase the number of tourists arriving from various target markets, especially to important and attractive tourist destinations, foremost among them the New Alamein City and Alexandria Governorate, both directly served by the airport.
Mohamed El-Homsany, the official spokesperson for the Cabinet, stated that the meeting reviewed the project components and the progress rates in the various implementation sectors, discussing several challenges facing the work and ways to overcome them to complete the tasks. The Prime Minister directed to intensify equipment and labor at the project sites, expedite coordination among different entities to remove any obstacles, and set a specific deadline for completion, with all responsible parties committed to it. This important traffic axis will contribute to achieving its intended goals of accommodating traffic flow and reducing congestion in Alexandria.
During the meeting, Major General Mahmoud Nassar presented a report on the ongoing steps to implement the project, explaining that the construction of the western arc of the General Omar Suleiman Axis (the ring road) in Alexandria is divided into three sectors. It includes the construction of a 20 km road with 6 traffic lanes in each direction, 4 overpasses, 2 bridges over the high-speed train, 5 surface bridges, a tunnel for cars, in addition to several other works.
