During his visit today to Qalyubia Governorate to inspect several developmental and service projects, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, along with his entourage, inspected the “Ahl Masr Walkway” in the city of Benha.
During the tour, the Prime Minister listened to an explanation from Engineer Ayman Atiya, Governor of Qalyubia, who indicated that the “Ahl Masr Walkway” project is one of the state’s initiatives to improve the urban appearance of Qalyubia Governorate and enhance its tourism and recreational features. He added that the walkway was implemented as part of a plan to beautify the Nile frontage to provide a cultural recreational space for the residents of Qalyubia.
Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, explained that the walkway was implemented by the Executive Authority for the Renewal of Islamic and Fatimid Cairo Neighborhoods, affiliated with the Central Agency for Reconstruction at the Ministry of Housing. He noted that the walkway is approximately 2 kilometers long, with a width ranging from 10 to 20 meters. He pointed out that three sectors (A, B, and C) of the walkway in Benha have been completed, while work is underway on the fourth sector (D), with designs and measurements finalized in preparation for implementation.
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly also received a detailed briefing from Major General Engineer Mahmoud Nassar, Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, who said that phase (A) of the walkway extends 450 meters from Kafr El-Gazzar Bridge to the railway line and was completed in May 2020. Phase (B) extends 400 meters from the railway line to Bata Ferry and was inaugurated in September 2022. He noted that both phases included equipping the walkway with rest areas, shelters, irrigation networks, and tree planting, as well as utilizing spaces for mobile kiosks.
Regarding phase (C), Major General Engineer Mahmoud Nassar explained that it extends 600 meters from Bata Ferry to the Teachers’ Club. All works have been completed, including wall and floor casting, landscaping, lighting, seating, and rest areas. He added that this phase aims to provide a new cultural recreational space for citizens and contribute to job opportunities for youth through food and beverage cart projects.
The head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction also spoke about phase (D) of the “Ahl Masr Walkway” in Benha, noting that it represents the largest scope of the project so far. It extends from the Teachers’ Club to the nursery area for 750 meters. He confirmed significant progress in this phase, including the removal of all obstacles and encroachments on the corniche. Currently, backfilling and foundation works are underway. The integrated engineering plan for this phase focuses on achieving aesthetic and environmental dimensions, providing green spaces and seating areas, and offering recreational and service activities to ensure a distinctive experience for citizens and a clear direct view of the Nile frontage.
Major General Medhat Abdelrahman Mostafa, Head of the Executive Authority for the Renewal of Islamic and Fatimid Cairo Neighborhoods, also spoke about the “Ahl Masr Walkway” in Qanater El-Khairiya city. He explained that work is currently underway to complete it with the highest possible efficiency. A canopy will be constructed in the restaurant area along with pergolas, in addition to implementing a pedestrian path along the corniche with a width of 7 meters featuring geometric patterns of interlock and stamped concrete with various modern finishes reflecting the visual identity beauty of Qalyubia Governorate. He added that work is also underway to create planting beds for trees and flowers, provide seating for citizens, playgrounds for children, and commercial shops of various sizes to meet visitors’ needs for different services.
