New Delhi, October 10 /BNA/ Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that he had a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump during which they reviewed progress in bilateral trade negotiations, confirming both sides agreed to continue close coordination in the coming weeks to advance the talks.

Officials from the Indian Ministry of Commerce stated that both sides are heading towards holding a new round of trade negotiations soon, either in New Delhi or Washington, as part of efforts to address existing disagreements over tariffs and market access.

The United States had imposed tariffs of 50% on most Indian exports, one of the highest rates imposed on any Washington trading partner, affecting Indian exports estimated at about $50 billion annually, especially in textiles, precious stones and jewelry, and seafood sectors.

Both parties hope that the upcoming round of talks will help ease trade restrictions and boost economic exchange between the two countries, especially amid the growing strategic relationship between India and the United States.
