The family of Omar Ayman Mohammed Hussein Al-Azzawi, a medical student at Al-Mustansiriya University, revealed tragic details about the death of their son, emphasizing that the incident has yet to receive any real follow-up from the competent authorities despite knowing the suspects.

Omar’s sister told Azzaman that her brother was severely beaten near his eye by a group of his friends a day before the incident. The next day, they contacted him to check on him, and he went with them to a friend’s apartment in the Yarmouk area. Their mother tried to reach the friend by phone, who said Omar was with him, but Omar’s voice sounded weak and exhausted. The mother went to the apartment but found no one there.

Later, their father received a call informing him that Omar had been burned and was screaming for help. The incident occurred near the Shamasiya area, leading to Omar’s death days after the event.

The sister confirmed that the perpetrators’ names are known, and the investigating officer is aware of the details and videos but refuses to hand them over. No suspects have been summoned despite more than a month passing since the incident.

She demanded a meeting with the Prime Minister and Interior Minister to ensure the criminals are held accountable and justice is served in her brother’s case, which remains unresolved, with unclear motives behind the lack of investigation.

Meanwhile, a large gathering took place in the Sulaikh area of Baghdad demanding justice for the slain martyr, attended by tribal leader Talal Habib Al-Khizran and wide participation from the Azza tribe. Participants called for pursuing all involved in Al-Azzawi’s murder, affirming that the blood will not be wasted and justice will prevail regardless of time.

Separately, security sources reported three people injured in two separate fights in different Baghdad areas, one involving relatives. One person was seriously injured in a fight in the Basateen neighborhood of Shaab district after the other party used a light weapon and fled.

Another fight in the Qadisiyah neighborhood of Latifiya subdistrict resulted in two injuries. The fight escalated to gunfire exchange, causing two injuries. Security forces transported the injured to the hospital and detained them, while others fled.

Additionally, a security source reported the killing of a Rapid Response Police officer in Kirkuk after being shot in the Imam Qasim area downtown. The officer, Abdullah Mohammed Sameen, 24, was shot in the chest while with three friends, was taken to the hospital but died from his wounds.

Rapid Response Police arrested the three suspects within 15 minutes. A broad investigation was launched to determine the motives and circumstances, with initial findings suggesting a criminal incident escalating to gunfire. The victim’s body was sent to the forensic department for legal procedures.

Another source in Muthanna confirmed a man was killed and four others injured in an armed fight in Najmi district over a Facebook comment. Two of the injured are in critical condition. Security forces cordoned off the scene, transferred the body to forensic medicine, and the injured to the nearest health center, and began investigating and searching for the perpetrators.
