Israeli experts have renewed discussions about Israel’s international isolation and its serious internal division that places it on the brink of civil war, noting that U.S. President Donald Trump is capable of saving Israel from itself and from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by ending this war.

These experts spoke to Israeli channels on the occasion of the two-year anniversary of the ongoing war Israel is waging on the Gaza Strip.

Retired Israeli General Yitzhak Brick referred to what he called a terrible division Israel is witnessing today, between right and left, religious and secular, Arabs and Jews, saying, “We have hatred and we are on the brink of civil war… there is no harmony that can lead to a coherent process to save the state from itself.”

Meanwhile, former head of the army’s planning division, Nimrod Sheffer, said, “Israel has become a pariah state,” noting that what Israel has done in the past two years has increased other countries’ distancing from it.

According to Channel 12 correspondent in Washington, Barak Ravid, those close to Trump feel that the war in Gaza is causing significant damage to the U.S. president’s agenda, quoting a very high-ranking official who said everyone feels despair about Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Barak Seri, a former defense minister advisor, said, “Trump saved Israel from itself and saved Netanyahu from himself, because if the war continued we would not see the hostages and would continue bleeding and stagnating in Gaza.”

He added that Israel is facing what he called a diplomatic tsunami along with boycott campaigns, sanctions, and protests, and Israelis have become unable to travel for tourism worldwide, in addition to personal, economic, and commercial financial damage, factories, and advanced technology companies fleeing Israel.

Kobi Niv, a journalist and writer at Haaretz newspaper, admits that “Israel is committing genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza,” confirming that “a military intelligence (AMAN) report says 82% of the casualties in Gaza are civilians.”

Gadi Taub, an Israeli journalist and historian, claims that “the ratio of civilian casualties to fighters on the other side is the lowest in the history of urban warfare.”
