Dr. Khaled Al-Saleh, Chairman of the National Campaign for Cancer Awareness “Kan,” emphasized the importance of integrating physical therapy programs into health awareness initiatives to enhance individual and community health. Speaking at the closing of the 2025 “Haydokan” Summer Olympics held in cooperation with the General Sports Authority under the slogan “Sport is Prevention,” he stated that such integration helps prevent diseases, improve physical movement and function, and promote mental health. He added that over 2.4 billion people worldwide require some form of rehabilitation services according to WHO statistics, highlighting the need for equitable and early provision of these services within healthcare systems. He also noted that between 60 and 90% of cancer patients suffer physical and psychological side effects that can be improved through rehabilitation and physical therapy programs, with about 43% of patients needing direct physical therapy services. Dr.
Iman Al-Shammari, Secretary of the “Kan” campaign, said the Olympics featured sports and community teams of various ages, focusing on the importance of sport in disease prevention through diverse activities and health awareness segments. Abdullah Al-Saleh, the Olympics director, expressed deep gratitude to all participants and praised the support of “Kan” and the effective partnership with participating entities that greatly contributed to the success of the events.
