The Edfo center in Aswan governorate is witnessing a series of sanitation projects under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s ‘Decent Life’ initiative, covering all villages deprived of sanitation services to ease burdens on residents, with high completion rates achieved. The work system is intensified to complete projects according to scheduled timelines for service entry and trial operation to provide sanitation services.
The presidential initiative includes 753 projects costing 10 billion Egyptian pounds across various sectors, serving more than 700,000 people in 13 main villages and 202 affiliated villages in Aswan governorate.
Sanitation projects in Edfo include the Nasrab wastewater treatment plant costing 60 million pounds with a capacity of 300 m3/day using triple integrated treatment, 96% completed. It includes 6.5 km of gravity networks fully implemented, a 1.5 km, 150 mm diameter discharge line fully completed and connected to the Hilal Qibli drainage outlet, with trial operations scheduled for mid-next month, serving over 3,000 people.
Other projects include a dual treatment plant in Al-Fawza village at Al-Radisiyah Bahri costing 350 million pounds with a capacity of 7,500 m3/day, with civil works at 98% and electromechanical works at 92% completion.
The sub-pumping station in Al-Buhayra village is fully completed with civil and electromechanical works, pumping through a 375 mm HDPE discharge line, also fully implemented. The main pumping station in Al-Fawza village is completed with civil and electromechanical works, pumping through a 4.12 km HDPE discharge line. Gravity networks totaling 45 km are fully implemented, connected to the final discharge sump of the Al-Radisiyah Qibli treatment plant via a 450 mm diameter, 340 m long line, fully completed. The Fawza treatment plant is nearing completion for trial operation, serving over 55,000 people.
The wastewater treatment plant in Al-Tonab village costs 170 million pounds with a capacity of 2,000 to 3,000 m3/day, with 95% civil and 93% electromechanical works completed. It includes 38.5 km of gravity networks at 95% completion, a main pumping station fully completed, a 6.69 km UPVC discharge line at 98%, connected to the Al-Siraj 1 drainage outlet and then to Al-Radisiyah drainage, serving 10,000 people. Work pace is increasing to complete and start trial operation for positive outcomes.
The integrated sanitation project for Al-Ramadi Bahri (Al-Hassaya) village in Edfo includes a treatment plant with a capacity of 9,000 to 13,500 m3/day costing about 448 million pounds, scheduled for full completion and trial operation to serve more than 22,000 people. The project includes 49 km of gravity networks, five pumping stations (Al-Zaniqa, Al-Hassaya, Al-Hajj Zidan, Abu Al-Nasr, and Edfo Qibli), a triple treatment plant, aeration and drying basins, chlorine building, contact and sedimentation basins, sludge concentration, distribution room, inlet, filters building, generator and transformer building, sludge tanks, purification tanks, crystallization building, storage, workshop, administrative building, guard room, fence, and a 4.32 km discharge line.
In Al-Sharawna village, the integrated sanitation project costing 244 million pounds is nearing completion within the first phase villages of the ‘Decent Life’ initiative. Engineer Youssef Helmy, head of the Central Administration for Upper Egypt governorates at the National Authority for Drinking Water and Sanitation, stated the project will be completed by the end of November, serving over 10,000 people. It includes a triple treatment plant with a capacity of 1,200 m3/day, 60% civil works completed, a pumping station with 100% civil and electromechanical works, currently undergoing trial operations, gravity networks of 12.5 km fully implemented, and a 1,350 m, 225 mm diameter discharge line 45% completed, connected to the Sharawna drainage outlet.
