The medical team at Menoufia Fever Hospital in Menoufia Governorate successfully saved several stroke patients by installing gastric feeding tubes using upper endoscopy without the need for surgical intervention. This was in line with directives from the Ministry of Health and Population and Menoufia Governorate to develop medical services for citizens. The team, led by Dr. Ahmed Hilal, a specialist in internal medicine and endoscopy, with nursing staff headed by Ms. Rania Khalifa, successfully installed six gastric feeding tubes for patients suffering from swallowing difficulties due to strokes. The new technique helped avoid serious complications such as choking and repeated suffocation, which sometimes require mechanical ventilation. Dr.
Amr Mostafa Mahmoud, Deputy Minister of Health in Menoufia, stated that this technique is the first of its kind in the governorate’s hospitals and is provided free of charge to patients through health insurance and state-funded treatment decisions despite its high cost, reflecting the state’s commitment to alleviating citizens’ suffering. The hospital is now ready to receive referred cases from various hospitals in the governorate, with plans to expand the technique’s application in other hospitals soon, contributing to improved healthcare quality and reducing the burden on patients and their families.
