The Consumer Protection Agency announced the seizure of 1150 mattresses made from unknown materials inside a warehouse in the Badrashin center and city in Giza Governorate. These mattresses bore famous brand names aimed at deceiving citizens during an extensive campaign carried out by the agency this morning. The campaign, based on complaints about non-compliant mattresses, also resulted in the seizure of 1953 counterfeit fabric labels bearing major brand names, along with 20 metal chassis and 4 plastic rolls used for mattress packaging after manufacturing. The seized items were confiscated, and a report was filed and referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action. Investigations revealed that the unlicensed facility manufactured mattresses using unknown materials, falsified technical data, and added major brand names without permission or license from the owning companies to mislead consumers and achieve illegal profits, representing clear commercial fraud and a threat to citizens’ safety and the national economy.
The head of the Consumer Protection Agency, Ibrahim El-Segini, confirmed that this seizure comes in implementation of the Prime Minister’s directives to enforce full discipline in markets and decisively confront the phenomenon of unknown-source goods. He emphasized that the agency will not tolerate any practices harmful to consumer health or that undermine trust in the national economy. El-Segini added that the agency continues to intensify its inspection campaigns across all governorates and enhance communication channels with citizens to monitor any violations. He explained that consumer protection is a national commitment that the state seeks to achieve through strict law enforcement, safeguarding consumer rights, and ensuring fair competition in the Egyptian market.
