With Qatar confirming it delivered the US proposal regarding the Gaza Strip to Hamas, Hamas Political Bureau member Hossam Badran clarified that Hamas is open to all solution proposals.
Badran said in a press statement on Tuesday that the movement “is open to all ideas and proposals for a solution, but without compromising its national constants.”
He also emphasized that “resistance against occupation is a legitimate right and complies with all international laws,” according to his expression.
“Several Days”
Simultaneously, a well-informed Palestinian official revealed that Hamas began today studying US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, within its leadership frameworks and with Palestinian factions. The official, close to Hamas, said the movement “started a series of consultations within its political and military leadership frameworks inside Palestine and abroad and will present a national response representing it and the factions.”
He also explained that the consultations “may take several days,” according to AFP.
Another Palestinian official confirmed that Hamas started its consultations on the plan after “receiving a copy of Trump’s plan from the Qataris and Egyptians” last night. He stressed that Hamas “is keen to achieve a comprehensive agreement to stop the war that guarantees a full Israeli withdrawal from the Strip, ends the siege imposed since 2007 (on Gaza), and rebuilds the Strip.”
He added that Israel “always obstructs any agreement because it wants the continuation of the war of extermination,” stressing that “international guarantees are necessary.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after leaving Washington, indicated that the Israeli army would remain in most areas of the Palestinian Strip despite the release of Israeli prisoners, noting that Trump’s plan called for a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Meanwhile, the White House yesterday published some details of the plan, consisting of 20 articles, which mainly call for an immediate end to the war if both conflict parties (Israel and Hamas) agree.
It also stipulated that Gaza should be demilitarized and governed by a Palestinian committee with international experts, without any role for Hamas.
However, US special envoy Steve Witkoff clarified that the proposal still needs some details but expressed optimism about its success this time because it is supported by Arab and European parties, according to him.
