Counselor Gamal El-Tahamy, head of the Human Rights and Citizenship Party, stated that the British authorities’ treatment of the Egyptian young man Ahmed Abdelkader, known as ‘Mido’, represents a double standard. He pointed out that Abdelkader was defending the Egyptian embassy against violations by suspicious groups.
El-Tahamy added in a phone interview on Extra News channel that the British authorities should have protected the Egyptian embassy and prevented any assault on it, rather than taking measures against an Egyptian citizen acting out of patriotism.
The party leader confirmed that this action contradicts international law and diplomatic norms, calling on British authorities to reconsider and protect the Egyptian embassy from the “small unacceptable factions.”
He noted that Egyptian youth abroad maintain constant contact with their homeland, and political parties in Egypt work to strengthen this connection, urging increased communication campaigns with Egyptians abroad to prevent them from falling prey to terrorist groups.
El-Tahamy explained that the Muslim Brotherhood targets Egyptian embassies abroad because their main goal is to return to power in Egypt, noting that some countries still allow their movement despite being classified as a terrorist group elsewhere.
He considered the events in Britain as evidence of these countries’ continued double standards, calling for confronting these moves through communication with Egyptian youth abroad and with governments that permit the group to act against Egypt.
