Hossam El-Badry, former star and coach of Al Ahly Club and the Egyptian national team, stated today that Egypt’s role in hosting the negotiations to stop the war on the Gaza Strip reflects its status as the “balance scale” in the Middle East, emphasizing that these moves enhance its weight as a regional great power.
This came in a statement to Youm7 following the city of Sharm El-Sheikh hosting talks between Hamas and Israel delegations, explaining that Egypt’s hosting of these “crucial” negotiations is proof of Egyptian leadership, pointing out that Cairo is the only party capable of bringing conflicting sides together and bridging viewpoints.
El-Badry said: “I proudly follow the pivotal role Egypt plays under its wise leadership. Hosting the Sharm El-Sheikh negotiations confirms that Egypt is the balance scale in the region and is always pioneering in extending peace and support to its brothers.”
The former national team coach stressed that Egypt’s intensive and continuous diplomatic efforts aim not only to achieve a ceasefire but also to establish lasting stability that ends the suffering of the Palestinian people and preserves their rights.
He added: “As an athlete and an Egyptian citizen, I see these moves enhancing Egypt’s status as a regional great power, not only due to its historical and geographical weight but also because of its positive influence and ability to achieve security and peace.”
Hossam El-Badry concluded his statement wishing the negotiations succeed in reaching an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire and the necessity to start a serious path towards a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.
