Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Rally parliamentary group in France, announced that her right-wing party will submit a no-confidence motion against the country’s new government on Monday.
In a statement on the platform “X” on Sunday evening, Le Pen said: “As we announced several days ago, a vote of no confidence against the government will be held by the ‘National Rally’ and our allies from the ‘Union of the Right for the Republic.’ We will submit the no-confidence motion tomorrow.”
She added: “The President of the Republic must announce as soon as possible the dissolution of the National Assembly to allow the French people to express their opinion and elect a new majority, which will undoubtedly be led by Jordan Bardella (leader of the National Rally).”
Bardella had previously stated that the National Rally would propose a no-confidence motion against Sébastien Lecornu after French President Emmanuel Macron reappointed him as Prime Minister and tasked him with forming the government.
It is worth noting that Lecornu resigned from his position as Prime Minister on October 6, after holding the post for only 27 days. After his reappointment on October 10, he announced plans to form a “freer” government independent of political parties.
French media reported that Lecornu’s resignation pushed France into its biggest political crisis in decades. France has seen five prime ministers change since Macron was re-elected president in 2022.
Lecornu’s predecessor, François Bayrou, resigned after deputies expressed no confidence in his government due to proposed austerity measures.
