The German Left Party announced its effective support in organizing a major public event to show solidarity with the besieged Gaza Strip, to be held in front of the German Parliament building in Berlin on September 27. The event is expected to be organized under the slogan: “All Eyes on Gaza – Stop the Genocide.” The party’s federal executive director, Janis Elling, told reporters in Berlin on Monday that the party will mobilize for this event, explaining that the party’s executive leadership made this decision over the weekend. He added: “We call on our members to participate in the march in front of the parliament building on September 27.” The demonstration is organized with participation from groups including Amnesty International and the relief organization Medico International. The rap group “K.I.Z” will also perform at the demonstration.
Elling called for increased pressure from the international community and for suspending the partnership agreement between the European Union and Israel, which includes provisions for close political and economic cooperation. This comes amid an Israeli-imposed starvation siege on the coastal enclave for more than five months, and the Israeli government’s announcement of its intention to occupy Gaza City and force hundreds of thousands of people to flee.
