Gamal El-Kashky, Editor-in-Chief of Al-Ahram Al-Arabi magazine, praised the pivotal role Egypt played in reaching the “Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement” to halt the war in the Gaza Strip, affirming that this achievement is a natural result of Egypt’s firm strategy and steadfast doctrine based on peace, development, and protecting Arab national security.
El-Kashky said in a phone interview with Extra News Channel: “To start with… it is Egypt,” pointing out that what was achieved reflects the essence of the Egyptian state, which builds its foreign policies on solid principles supporting stability in the Middle East and regional economic development.
He explained that Egypt’s stance in supporting the Palestinian cause is not a momentary one but extends over many decades, referring to Egypt’s call to rid the Middle East of weapons of mass destruction since 1974, and the historic speech of the late President Anwar Sadat in Jerusalem, which placed the Palestinian cause at the heart of the regional solution.
El-Kashky noted that Cairo realized from the first day of the October 7 events the seriousness of the situation, and took the initiative to warn of the war’s expansion, which later occurred in Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen.
He added that Egypt led an intensive diplomatic effort including the “Cairo Peace Summit” and active participation in Arab and Islamic summits, as well as hosting senior international officials, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, French President Emmanuel Macron, and European heads of government.
El-Kashky also praised the diplomatic efforts of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, describing them as “a monumental effort,” noting that the president held more than 181 meetings and summits with world leaders over the past two years, with the Palestinian cause being a constant focus in those meetings.
El-Kashky concluded his statements by affirming that what has been achieved today is a “natural embodiment of the Egyptian state’s constants,” which has never abandoned supporting the Palestinian people or its historical commitment to just and comprehensive peace in the region.
