Reactions on social media platforms varied regarding US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the Israeli war on Gaza. Some celebrated it as a path to salvation, while others saw it as serving Tel Aviv’s interests and imposing its conditions on the Palestinians.

On Monday, Trump announced at a White House press conference a comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court.

The plan, consisting of 20 articles, includes the release of Israeli prisoners in Gaza within 72 hours and disarmament of the resistance. It also stipulates that Gaza will be temporarily managed by a transitional Palestinian technocratic committee responsible for public services under the supervision of an international transitional body called the “Peace Council” chaired by Trump.

The plan also includes a broad reconstruction program that opens the door for establishing a Palestinian state in the medium term.

During the press conference, Trump expressed optimism about the plan’s success in achieving peace between the parties and claimed that Hamas poses a threat to regional stability.

Between Supporters and Opponents

Social media activists’ reactions to the US proposal were mixed. Some welcomed the plan and expected the Palestinian resistance to accept it, while others saw it as a trap that restricts the resistance’s goals with conditions mostly favoring the Israeli occupation.

The “Networks” episode on 2025/09/30 discussed the activists’ division. Activist Mustafa rejected Trump’s plan, considering it does not meet the Palestinians’ aspirations, writing: “A proposal completely rejected by the Palestinian people first, and by the Palestinian resistance factions second; because it does not meet the Palestinian people’s aspirations.”

Activist Wael believed the decision lies with the people of Gaza alone, tweeting: “There is no need for any of us to theorize about the people of Gaza, as we did not live through what they experienced during the past two years. They have the right to accept or reject, and we have no right to advise them.”

Activist Mohammed called for ending the war and enabling the people to live in peace after years of suffering, writing: “After more than two years of torment and suffering, don’t the people of Gaza have the right to live peacefully on their land? Enough of what they have endured and witnessed… Let the war end, the time has come.”

Activist Khaled questioned whether there is an agreement between Trump and Netanyahu aiming to put Hamas before two options: either accept Israeli conditions or face a displacement scenario with US support, tweeting: “Is there an agreement between Trump and Netanyahu? Because they know Hamas will not accept this plan, thus cornering it… Either submit to Netanyahu’s conditions or there is open support from Trump to Netanyahu and displacement of Gaza’s residents.”

Netanyahu confirmed his support for Trump’s plan as it aligns with the five goals he set to end the war.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid Al-Ansari clarified that Qatar and Egypt handed over the US plan to Hamas’s negotiating delegation, which promised to study the plan responsibly.
