Tunisian activists organized a solidarity rally on Saturday evening in support of the Palestinian people in Gaza following the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, celebrating the end of the two-year-long massacre committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip.
The rally, held in front of the Municipal Theater in the capital Tunis, was called by the “Supporters of Palestine” Association under the slogan “The truce in Gaza is the first step towards victory.”
Dozens of participants raised slogans such as “Freedom, freedom… for our Gaza freedom,” “At your service, Al-Aqsa,” “Salute to the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades,” “The flood until the entity falls,” and “Palestine… your people are the mighty.”
Khawla Brahem, a board member of the Supporters of Palestine Association, told Anadolu Agency that this was the 104th rally organized by the association since the outbreak of the Al-Aqsa flood two years ago, with the slogan “The truce in Gaza is the first step towards victory.”
She considered the truce in Gaza a victory and a joy for Gaza and the resistance but stressed that it should also be the first step towards complete victory.
She added, “We will not stop supporting Gaza just because there is a truce; we will continue the struggle until the liberation of Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is the ultimate goal of these sacrifices in Gaza and the blood spilled there.”
Brahem pointed to ongoing Israeli violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque, saying, “Therefore, the resistance will continue and will not end until the liberation of all Palestine.”
She confirmed the continuation of weekly solidarity rallies supporting Gaza.
She emphasized that the Israeli occupation has no treaty or covenant and expected violations of the truce, which they do not hope for, so upcoming actions will aim to support the stabilization of the truce, support Gaza, rebuild it, and free Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails.
Brahem called on Tunisians not to retreat from supporting Gaza after the truce and to continue their struggle by organizing naval fleets or land convoys to break the siege and to continue boycotting all products supporting the occupation.
The first phase of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel came into effect at 12:00 noon on Friday Jerusalem time (09:00 GMT) after the Israeli government approved the agreement at dawn.
The agreement is based on a plan proposed by former US President Donald Trump, which includes stopping the war, gradual withdrawal of the Israeli army, mutual prisoner releases, immediate entry of aid into the Gaza Strip, and disarmament of Hamas.
The approval of the first phase came after four days of indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel at the Sharm El-Sheikh resort, with participation from Turkey, Egypt, and Qatar, under American supervision.
With US support, Israel committed a two-year genocide in Gaza since October 8, 2023, resulting in 67,682 martyrs and 170,033 wounded, most of them children and women, and a famine that claimed the lives of 463 Palestinians including 157 children.
