Interior Minister Mazen Faraya met today Wednesday at his office with Qatari Minister of State for Interior Affairs, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal bin Mohammed Al Thani, to discuss ways to strengthen the fraternal bilateral relations linking the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the sisterly State of Qatar, and to consolidate the common interests between the two countries.
In the context of affirming cooperation fields between the two ministries of interior and activating the cooperation agreement signed in 2021 between Jordan and Qatar in the security field, an executive action plan on security cooperation was signed today at the Ministry of Interior headquarters in Amman. It was signed on the Qatari side by Minister of State for Interior Affairs Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal bin Mohammed Al Thani, and on the Jordanian side by Interior Minister Mazen Faraya.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Qatari Ambassador to Jordan, Sheikh Saud bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani, the Director of Qatari Public Security Major General Mohammed Jassim Al Sulaiti, the Director of Jordanian Public Security Major General Dr. Obeid Allah Al-Maaytah, the Director General of the Civil Status and Passports Department, Ghaith Al-Tayeb, and several officials from the interior ministries of both countries.
The action plan aims to enhance and sustain cooperation between Jordan and Qatar in several security fields, including exchanging expertise and best practices in combating corruption, organized crime, terrorism, cybercrime, illicit drug trafficking, border security, and the security of facilities and institutions.
The plan also aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in civil protection and civil defense, including exchanging visits between civil defense specialists for cooperation and coordination, sharing expertise and reviewing curricula and regulations of civil defense institutes and academies in both countries. It also includes exchanging expertise and best practices in traffic strategies and policies, traffic technologies and systems, and developing mechanisms for exchanging information related to driver and vehicle licensing.
Furthermore, the plan focuses on consolidating cooperation in police academies and training, communications and information systems, and forming a security committee between the two ministries of interior.
Minister Faraya emphasized the depth of fraternal relations between Jordan and Qatar at both official and popular levels, describing them as a true model of sincere brotherly relations. He praised the great cooperation and full coordination in various shared issues and fields, thanks to the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein and his brother His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Faraya also discussed with the Qatari minister the regional situation, briefing him on the security challenges in the region and the importance of this plan and joint work in facing these challenges to contribute to maintaining the security and stability of both countries.
For his part, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal bin Mohammed Al Thani praised the solid relations between the two countries within the framework of their common interests, rooted in the wise and continuous directives of the leaderships of the two brotherly countries, which opened horizons for joint cooperation in various fields.
