President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued a presidential decree appointing the writer and novelist Ahmed Mourad, author of the novel “The Blue Elephant” and several famous literary and cinematic works, as a member of the Senate 2025, among a list of appointees that included a select group of intellectual, cultural, and creative figures.
Ahmed Mourad is considered one of the most prominent literary voices of his generation, having produced several works that enjoyed wide popular acceptance and were adapted into successful films, such as “Diamond Dust,” “1919,” and both parts of “The Blue Elephant,” making him one of the symbols of contemporary literature that blends fiction and reality in an engaging and impactful style.
Mourad’s selection for the Senate membership confirms the Egyptian state’s keenness to empower creators and intellectuals to participate in shaping cultural and legislative policies that affect national identity, and to support soft power as a fundamental pillar in building societal awareness.
