The Coptic Orthodox Church is witnessing increasing expansion in East and Central African countries, especially Kenya, Tanzania, and Zambia, through spiritual, developmental, and educational services that have contributed to enhancing its humanitarian role on the continent. The bishops of the Coptic dioceses there continue their efforts to serve local communities, not only through spiritual care but also by supporting the education system, combating illiteracy, and raising social awareness.

Kenya is one of the most prominent centers of Coptic service in Africa, with dozens of churches and community schools sponsored by the church, alongside centers for language and vocational training. The Coptic diocese there has successfully established schools that combine academic curricula with value-based education, targeting children in poor and remote areas.

In Tanzania, Coptic service has notably expanded in recent years with the ordination of several priests and the establishment of small and medium educational projects. The church in Tanzania focuses on basic education and girls’ empowerment, in addition to creating literacy classes as part of a social initiative aimed at raising the community’s cultural level.

In Zambia, the Coptic Church continues to provide free educational services to village children, offering scholarships to outstanding students. It has also contributed to founding technical schools teaching carpentry, blacksmithing, and mechanics to economically empower youth and reduce unemployment.

Observers confirm that the spread of the Coptic Church in Africa combines spiritual dimensions with a development mission, as the church invests in education as a cornerstone for building a strong society capable of change, earning it wide respect and appreciation in these countries.
