On Friday, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that its armed forces are “ready to undertake any mission assigned” as part of a peacekeeping operation in the besieged and devastated Gaza Strip.
A Turkish Defense Ministry official responded to reporters that “our armed forces, which have extensive experience in enforcing and maintaining peace, are ready to assume any role requested of them.”
On Thursday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan confirmed that his country wishes to participate in any “mission” to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated late Thursday in Paris that “a team including the United States, Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar will act as facilitators, tasked with monitoring the implementation of the agreement’s details and discussing them with both parties,” meaning Israel and Hamas, adding that these countries will act as “mediators.”
Earlier on Thursday, the White House announced that about 200 personnel from the U.S. Central Command would be tasked with monitoring the implementation of the peace agreement in Israel.
In this context, a U.S. official told Al Jazeera that American forces have begun establishing a coordination center inside Israel to support efforts related to President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza.
The official explained that the forces will coordinate the entry of humanitarian aid and manage logistical and security efforts related to the plan.
Earlier on Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump said that negotiations in recent days led to an agreement to end the war in Gaza, confirming he will soon travel to the Middle East.
He confirmed that the prisoner release operation would take place next Monday or Tuesday, noting that there will be a signing ceremony for the agreement in Egypt, according to him.
Trump expressed his gratitude to the leaders of Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for their help in reaching what he described as a “wonderful outcome.”
He said he believes that “the peace we helped achieve in the Middle East will be sustainable,” emphasizing that “all countries in the region agreed on peace.”
