On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose high tariffs on countries that do not manufacture their furniture products in the United States.

Trump wrote in a post on “Truth Social”: “For North Carolina — which has completely lost its furniture industry to China and other countries — to become great again, I will impose heavy tariffs on any country that does not manufacture its furniture in the United States.. details to be announced later.”

Last month, Trump said he intends to impose tariffs on furniture imports to help revive the local industry in North Carolina.

He added that the state has “the most talented carpenters ever,” but this craft “was taken away from us by others, not just China,” encouraging workers to start teaching their children and grandchildren the art of furniture making.

During a cabinet meeting, he said: “Some of these wonderful artists I knew in their youth are now older, but they still have the talent and enough time, and they will teach their sons, daughters, and grandchildren, and that will be wonderful.”

A few days ago, Trump already announced a new package of tariffs targeting the furniture sector, kitchen cabinets, and bathroom fixtures, at rates of 30% and 50% respectively, which will take effect on October 1.

Trump also imposed a 100% tariff on all films produced outside the United States.

He wrote on “Truth Social”: “The film industry has been stolen from the United States by other countries, just like candy is stolen from a baby.”

He continued: “To solve this chronic, never-ending problem, I will impose a 100% tariff on all films produced outside the United States.”

He added that California was the most affected by this alleged theft, pointing to “the weakness and incompetence of its governor.”
