US President Donald Trump said he will impose a 100% tariff on “any and all films” produced outside the United States, pointing out that foreign countries harm the American film industry in Hollywood.

Trump wrote in a post on his own social media platform, Truth Social, that there is no timeline for implementing these tariffs, and he did not provide any details on how such tariffs would be imposed, or whether they would apply to foreign films streamed on American platforms like Netflix or be limited to films shown in American cinemas.

Trump stated in the post, “Other countries are stealing our film industry from the United States of America, they are stealing it like candy is stolen from a baby.”

Analysts note that many global films are co-produced. Also, films are not goods imported in the traditional way, which means the government must determine how to assess them and when they are considered imported films.

It is worth mentioning that Trump previously directed the US Department of Commerce last May to immediately start imposing 100% tariffs on “films produced abroad.”

At that time, he said the American film industry is “dying fast” due to other countries luring filmmakers and studios with generous incentives to shoot films there, describing it as a national security threat.
