US President Donald Trump complimented Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, praising her beauty during the Gaza summit held in Sharm El-Sheikh, where she was the only woman participant.
Trump, who co-chaired the summit with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, said in a speech, “It’s not really my place to say this because usually your career ends if you say it, but she is a beautiful woman.”
The 79-year-old US president continued, turning to Meloni, “I’ll risk it,” adding, “Where is she? Does it bother you if I say you’re beautiful? Because it’s true.”
Trump added, “She is highly respected in Italy. She is a very successful politician.”
Meloni, who was standing right behind him, simply smiled.
During the group photo that included about thirty leaders from around the world, Meloni was the only woman.
Trump has previously faced criticism for making remarks considered to have a sexual nature.
In September, a New York appellate court upheld a ruling ordering him to pay $83.3 million to writer E. Jean Carroll in a defamation case related to allegations of sexual assault.
