The Washington Post reported on Sunday, citing a document, that US President Donald Trump will participate on Tuesday in a meeting held with senior army and navy leaders at the Quantico base in Virginia, in a rare gathering that brings the country’s military leaders together in one place.

So far, there has been no comment from the White House regarding Trump’s participation. Reuters, citing US officials, indicated that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is expected to discuss during the approximately one-hour meeting the importance of maintaining the ‘fighting spirit’ within various branches of the armed forces, and may also address other issues.

The agency explained that US forces are deployed in various parts of the world, including South Korea, Japan, and the Middle East.

CNN noted that the generals and officers summoned by Hegseth were asked to provide a ‘very good reason’ if they could not attend, adding that Hegseth has expressed disdain in recent years for generals and senior officers, blaming them for introducing ‘woke’ policies into the US military culture, referring to diversity, equality, and inclusion policies.

Trump himself has dismissed a large number of generals and senior officers since taking office and issued a decision last May to reduce the number of generals and admirals by no less than 20 percent.
