US President Donald Trump is heading to the doctor today, Friday, for what his aides describe as a routine visit that nonetheless calls for significant attention to the vitality of the 79-year-old president.
The White House said Trump will go to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, a hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, known for serving presidents, to undergo a “routine” annual check-up, as well as to meet with soldiers and deliver a speech, according to Sky News Arabia.
This visit comes just six months after he underwent a comprehensive physical examination.
Trump told reporters on Thursday, “Physically, I feel very good, and mentally I feel very good,” adding that it is a “semi-annual” visit to the doctor.
Trump became the oldest person to assume the US presidency when he returned to the White House in January, and is the second oldest person ever to hold the office, according to Sky News Arabia.
Trump’s health has become a focus after former President Joe Biden decided not to run for a second term in 2024 amid questions about his fitness for office.
Trump’s performance contrasted with Biden’s during last year’s presidential campaign, portraying himself as younger and fitter.
