US President Donald Trump expressed his displeasure on Monday over an Israeli airstrike on Nasser Hospital in Gaza that killed at least 20 people, including five journalists. Trump said he was not aware of the attack beforehand and stated, “Well, I am not happy about that. I don’t want to see that. At the same time, we have to end this nightmare.” The Israeli military acknowledged striking the area around the hospital and announced an investigation. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned the airstrikes, describing them as an open war on free media to intimidate journalists and prevent them from exposing Israeli crimes. According to the syndicate, over 240 Palestinian journalists have been killed by Israeli fire in Gaza since October 7, 2023.
The Committee to Protect Journalists called on the international community to hold Israel accountable for its ongoing illegal attacks on the press, estimating 197 media workers killed since the war began, including 189 Palestinians in Gaza.
