Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed on Thursday that Moscow is aware that some countries are preparing nuclear tests, and if they conduct them, Russia will do the same.

Putin said during a meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club, as reported by the Russian Sputnik agency, “Some are preparing these (nuclear) tests, we see and know about it, and if it happens, we will do the same.”

The Russian president revealed that the number of nuclear warheads on submarines in Russia and the United States is comparable, stating: “America has more submarines, but the number of nuclear warheads they carry is close to the number on our submarines.”

The 22nd annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Forum, titled “A Multipolar World: Guidelines for Implementation,” is being held in Sochi from September 29 to October 2.
