The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas said it is still awaiting a response from the Israeli occupation regarding the proposal presented by mediators to the movement on August 18, which Hamas and the Palestinian resistance agreed upon.

In a statement on its official Telegram channel on Wednesday evening, Hamas reiterated its readiness to proceed with a comprehensive deal whereby all enemy prisoners held by the resistance would be released in exchange for an agreed number of Palestinian prisoners held by the occupation, as part of an agreement to end the war on the Gaza Strip, the full withdrawal of occupation forces from the entire sector, opening crossings to allow all sector needs, and starting the reconstruction process.

The movement also reaffirmed its approval to form an independent national technocratic administration to manage all affairs of the Gaza Strip and immediately assume its responsibilities in all fields.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump called on Hamas to release all Israeli detainees.

He wrote on his official page on the Truth Social platform on Wednesday evening: “Hamas must immediately return all twenty hostages, not 2 or 5 or 7, and things will change quickly and end.”

Hamas announced its acceptance of a new proposal received from Egyptian and Qatari mediators regarding a ceasefire, which includes stopping the war, releasing Israeli prisoners, and allowing aid entry. However, Israel ignored this proposal and did not discuss the deal, despite nearly two weeks passing since Hamas’s approval.

According to Reuters, the proposal Hamas agreed to includes a 60-day ceasefire and the release of 10 live Israeli prisoners held by Hamas in Gaza, handing over the bodies of 18 prisoners in exchange for the release of about 200 Palestinians sentenced to long prison terms in Israel.

Tel Aviv estimates that there are 48 Israeli prisoners in Gaza, 20 of whom are alive, while more than 10,800 Palestinians are held in Israeli prisons suffering from torture, starvation, medical neglect, and many have been killed, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports.
