The Syrian Foreign Ministry republished the text of UN Security Council Resolution 497 issued in 1981, which nullifies and cancels Israel’s decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction, and administration over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
The republication came after US President Donald Trump reaffirmed his recognition of Israel’s authority over the occupied Syrian Golan.
Israel has launched hundreds of airstrikes on Syrian military sites, stating its goal is to prevent new authorities from acquiring the arsenal of the former army. It has repeatedly announced ground operations and arrests of individuals suspected of “terrorist” activities in southern Syria.
Israel demands that southern Syria be a demilitarized zone.
