Dr. Basheer Abdel Fattah, a researcher at Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies, confirmed that the issue of Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and preparations for establishing a Palestinian state remain unclear due to the absence of clear timelines. He explained that the proposed or leaked plan did not include specific dates for the Israeli army’s withdrawal or the start of negotiations to establish the Palestinian state.

Abdel Fattah added, during a phone interview on the program “Last Word” broadcast on ON TV with journalist Ahmed Salem, that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, along with former US President Donald Trump, do not have a genuine conviction about the two-state solution, unlike the European position which insists on this solution. He pointed out that including the Palestinian state clause in the plan was only to appease Arab and Islamic countries that now see the two-state solution as inevitable, especially after 164 countries recognized Palestine.

The researcher explained that if Netanyahu accepted the idea of the two-state solution, he would later retract it, especially after completing some files such as prisoner recovery. He indicated that this could threaten the survival of his government, which depends on the support of the far-right led by Ben Gvir and Smotrich. He noted that opposition leader Yair Lapid offered Netanyahu a “political safety net” to compensate for seats if his extremist partners withdrew, but Netanyahu prefers to keep this wing to provide a far-right cover for his expansionist projects in the region.

Abdel Fattah concluded by affirming that Netanyahu misreads Israel’s military capabilities, exaggerating threats from major countries such as Egypt, Turkey, and Pakistan, while Israel has not achieved any real victories on the ground and has limited itself to killing civilians in its confrontations with militias and armed factions.
