Hours after the Israeli occupation forces withdrew from Gaza, the Interior Ministry began deploying its units in the areas to establish security and start restoring life to the Palestinian sector.
The units continued their deployment on Saturday in the areas vacated by the Israeli army starting from yesterday, in implementation of the ceasefire agreement. Photos from the Gaza Strip today showed clear deployment on main roads and especially in popular markets.
An Interior Ministry security member told Anadolu Agency that the rapid deployment “aims to reassure Palestinians of security and that no one is above the law.”
The Interior Ministry in Gaza announced yesterday the start of deploying its security apparatus in all governorates of the sector where the Israeli army withdrew, to restore order and address the chaos that the occupation sought to spread over two years.
Emergency Plan
The ministry called on Palestinians in a statement to “preserve public and private property, avoid any actions that may endanger their lives, cooperate with officers and members of police, security, and service agencies, and adhere to instructions issued by the competent authorities in the ministry in the coming days.”
Today, the Gaza government announced the completion of more than 5,000 field, service, and humanitarian missions within 24 hours as part of an emergency plan to gradually restore life to the Palestinian sector.
According to the government statement, this included more than 1,200 medical and health missions, including surgeries, emergency care for wounded and sick, follow-up for chronic patients, in addition to 850 rescue and relief missions, more than 900 service missions carried out by municipalities, water and electricity authorities, about 700 relief and humanitarian missions including distribution of food parcels and shelter materials, more than 650 community missions in shelters, and over 700 logistical, organizational, and media missions related to aid delivery and documentation of various activities.
The government statement noted that government teams continue their work despite the killing of more than 8,000 of their employees over two years of extermination.
Priorities
A spokesperson for Gaza Municipality told Al Jazeera that some main streets in the city have been opened, with priority given to securing water, waste collection, and addressing sewage problems.
Meanwhile, Gaza Municipality Mayor Yahya Al-Sarraj told Al Jazeera that the current priority is preparing to receive returnees from the southern sector, noting that resources are almost nonexistent to prepare roads, and confirming that the municipality is in contact with several entities to provide the necessary equipment as soon as possible.
