Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s plan for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to a genocide committed by Israel for two years.
He posted on the platform “X” saying, “I am also convinced that lasting peace between the Palestinian people and Israel will be essential to achieving political stability and economic growth in the region.”
Sharif expressed his belief that Trump is ready to provide all forms of assistance to implement the “important and urgent agreement,” adding, “I firmly believe that implementing the two-state solution proposal is necessary to ensure lasting peace in the region.”
Trump’s plan, presented on Tuesday to leaders of Arab and Islamic countries in New York, includes a halt to military operations and the release of all Israeli prisoners within 48 hours, and the formation of two international and Palestinian bodies to manage the Gaza Strip without involving Hamas, according to The Washington Post.
With US support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in 66,055 martyrs and 168,346 injured, most of them children and women, and a famine that claimed the lives of 442 Palestinians including 147 children.
