The Turkish Red Crescent provided food and medical aid to the “Global Steadfastness Flotilla” sailing in the Mediterranean en route to Gaza to deliver humanitarian assistance.

Within the area between Crete Island, Cyprus, and Egypt, Turkish humanitarian aid was delivered to the flotilla ships.

According to Anadolu Agency correspondent, the Turkish Red Crescent team managed to reach the flotilla ships and deliver food and medical supplies.

The aid transfer was documented from the air.

Earlier, Turkey evacuated passengers from a ship in the Mediterranean Sea, part of the “Global Steadfastness Flotilla” heading to Gaza, in response to a distress call after the ship suffered a malfunction and began taking on water.

The ship “Johnny M” sent a distress call on Monday morning while located in the area between Crete Island, Cyprus, and Egypt during its journey as part of the flotilla aiming to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.

For days, the flotilla ships have been sailing towards Gaza, loaded with humanitarian aid, especially medical supplies, in an attempt to break the Israeli blockade.

The “Global Steadfastness Flotilla” includes the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, the Global Gaza Movement, the Steadfastness Convoy, and the Malaysian “Nusantara Steadfastness” organization, carrying more than 500 activists from 40 countries aboard 50 ships.

This is the first time dozens of ships sail together towards Gaza, home to about 2.4 million Palestinians, which has been blockaded by Israel for about 18 years.

Since March 2, Israel has tightened the blockade by closing all crossings leading to Gaza, preventing any food, medicine, or humanitarian aid from entering, plunging the sector into famine despite aid trucks piling up at its borders.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with U.S. support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, resulting in 66,055 deaths and 168,346 injuries, most of them children and women, and famine has claimed the lives of 442 Palestinians, including 147 children.
