Republican US Representative Joe Wilson announced today that the US Senate voted to repeal the Caesar Act sanctions imposed on Syria during the previous regime.
Wilson said in a post on X platform: “We thank the Senate for approving the repeal of the Caesar Act as part of the National Defense Authorization Act. These harsh sanctions were imposed on a regime that no longer exists, fortunately, and Syria’s success now depends on their full repeal.”
Wilson had previously stated in an interview with Al Arabiya Al Hadath on September 21 that the full repeal of the Caesar Act sanctions enjoys support from members of both parties (Republican and Democratic) in Congress.
Wilson and the Syrian American Coalition had earlier called for lifting the sanctions imposed on Syria under the Caesar Act. On September 6, Wilson tweeted: “Congress must support President Donald Trump and approve a full and comprehensive repeal of the Caesar Act.”
