King Mohammed VI, the Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, appointed Major General Abdellah Boutrik as the Director General of the Directorate General of Information Systems Security (DGSSI), affiliated with the National Defense Administration, according to an announcement on the DGSSI’s official website on Monday.

According to the DGSSI’s official website, “this appointment comes as part of Morocco’s ongoing efforts in the field of cybersecurity and reflects its firm commitment to securing and protecting the national cyber space as a strategic challenge in the digital transition process.”

The same source stated that “Major General Abdellah Boutrik is a graduate of the National Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics (INSEA) and the Royal Military Academy of Meknes (Class of 1987). He also holds a Staff Course diploma, a Higher Defense Course certificate, and a Master’s degree in Security and Defense from the Royal College of Advanced Military Studies.”

The official website of the directorate responsible for information systems security, cybersecurity, and information protection also confirmed that “the appointed director has held several key positions during his career,” including “Director of Assistance, Training, Monitoring, and Expertise at the DGSSI, as well as Deputy Inspector of the Signal Corps in the Royal Armed Forces.”
