According to Agence France-Presse on Monday, the plane of the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Ursula von der Leyen, was subjected to suspected Russian GPS jamming in Bulgaria.
A spokesperson for the European Commission told the American CNN network that the plane carrying Ursula von der Leyen experienced GPS interference while attempting to land in Bulgaria on Sunday.
The spokesperson explained that the plane landed safely and noted that the Commission received information from Bulgarian authorities suspecting Russia of carrying out this blatant interference.
The spokesperson added that “this will strengthen our firm commitment to enhance our defense capabilities and support Ukraine.”
Meanwhile, a source familiar with the matter told CNN that the pilots landed the plane using paper maps.
