The regional meeting on digital transformation in election management began today in Amman and will last three days, with participation from a select group of specialists and experts from several Arab countries.

In his opening speech, Eng. Mousa Al-Maayta, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission and President of the Arab Organization for Election Management Bodies, emphasized the importance of keeping pace with digital transformations in managing electoral processes to enhance transparency and improve the efficiency of electoral institutions.

Al-Maayta stated that justice is not built by force alone but through consensus and free choice.

He stressed that the integrity of the electoral process is the core of the social contract and a mirror of the citizen’s dignity.

Al-Maayta welcomed the participation of the Syrian delegation for the first time, while announcing the absence of the Palestinian delegation from the conference activities due to their prevention by the occupation forces, describing this as a continuation of Israeli arrogance, and affirmed full solidarity with our brothers in Palestine facing the machinery of killing and destruction.

Al-Maayta added that having a strong election management body is a national necessity to protect societal unity, explaining that democracy in Jordan is based on national foundations and that the recent elections included participation from all political forces and cooperation from all institutions.

The opening was marked by a solidarity stand with the Palestinian people, affirming the centrality of the Palestinian cause in the Arab conscience and sending a message from the participants on the necessity of supporting the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

The first session then began, addressing the topic of digital transformation in election management, facilitated by Lara Aizouqi, member of the Higher Committee for Election Management in the Syrian People’s Assembly, with participation from Nasser Al-Habashneh, Director of the Election Operations Directorate at the Independent Election Commission/Jordan, Ahmed Amin, Director of the Elections Affairs Secretariat at the Arab League, and Dr. Mohamed Al-Amin Daai, Vice President of the National Independent Election Commission in Mauritania.
