Brussels, August 19, 2025 (WAL) – Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, called on EU leaders to hold an emergency virtual meeting today, Tuesday, to discuss the outcomes of the high-level summit hosted by the White House last night, Monday, attended by US President Donald Trump, his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, and prominent European leaders.
Costa stated in a press release that he called the meeting to provide a briefing on the Washington meetings regarding Ukraine, affirming that the European Union will continue working in cooperation with the United States for a lasting peace that ensures the vital security interests of Ukraine and Europe.
The summit included leaders from France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Finland, as well as the NATO Secretary General and the President of the European Commission, where they discussed with Trump and Zelensky ways to end the war in Ukraine and reach a settlement that lays the foundations for stability and security in the European continent.
