Russian news agency TASS quoted Yuri Ushakov, a Kremlin advisor, on Friday saying that Russia supports the nomination of former U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The winner of the 2025 prize is scheduled to be announced at 0900 GMT, but seasoned observers of the prize doubt that Trump will receive it.
Russia has repeatedly expressed gratitude for Trump’s efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in statements published Thursday that Kyiv will nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, which he aspires to win, if he succeeds in reaching a ceasefire.
