Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani agreed during a phone call on Thursday to postpone the first Russia-Arab Summit to a later date.
The press office of the Russian presidency (the Kremlin), according to the Russian Sputnik agency, stated that the Russian and Iraqi sides will inform the capitals of the Arab countries about the postponement of the Russia-Arab Summit through diplomatic channels.
Russian President’s aide Yuri Ushakov said on Tuesday that Russia had invited leaders of 22 countries and the Secretary-General of the Arab League to attend the first Russia-Arab Summit in Moscow. He added, “I believe the list of participants will be known by around next Monday or Tuesday, and we have sent invitations to all leaders of the 22 Arab countries, and of course to the Secretary-General of the Arab League.” He continued, “The composition of participants in the Russia-Arab Summit remains fluid due to the active work currently underway on US President Donald Trump’s plan regarding Gaza. Many participants in our summit are directly linked to this work.”
