The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned statements by G7 members and Western countries and institutions regarding law enforcement activities carried out by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Monday that the actions taken by the Hong Kong police against individuals involved in illegal electoral activities of the so-called “Hong Kong Parliament” comply with Hong Kong’s National Security Law and the National Security Protection Ordinance.

He added that these actions are consistent with international law and accepted practices, describing them as “legal, justified, and necessary.” This came in response to a statement issued by some participants in the G7 Rapid Response Mechanism, which described Hong Kong police decisions as “cross-border repression.” The Chinese spokesman affirmed that these accusations are “baseless,” accusing some countries of double standards by criticizing law enforcement in Hong Kong while abusing “long-arm jurisdiction” and imposing unlawful unilateral sanctions.
