Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has invited his American counterpart Donald Trump to attend the signing of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, if it is reached in Sharm El-Sheikh, amid optimism surrounding negotiations based on what is called the Trump plan.
Al-Sisi said during a graduation ceremony for a new batch of police academy students, as reported by Cairo News Channel, ‘I send a message to President Trump to continue his support to reach an agreement regarding Gaza.’
He added that Trump had sent his envoys (Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner) with a clear mandate to work on ending the Gaza war, praising the US president’s efforts to end the conflict in Gaza.
The Egyptian president emphasized Cairo’s keenness to make the Sharm El-Sheikh negotiations successful in ending the war in the Gaza Strip.
Indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Egypt are witnessing international momentum with the arrival of high-level delegations from Turkey, Qatar, and the United States on Wednesday, raising expectations that the situation will soon become clearer.
On September 29, Trump announced a plan consisting of 20 points, including prisoner exchange, ceasefire, and disarmament of Hamas.
Israeli Broadcasting Corporation quoted an unnamed Israeli source saying that the United States is managing the negotiations which started the day before yesterday at an accelerated pace to close outstanding issues, but so far nothing concrete has been achieved.
Israel’s Channel 12 (private) said today that the military establishment expects the situation to become clear within a few days through intensive negotiations underway in Egypt.
It quoted a senior Israeli security source as saying that the current field and political conditions have created a favorable environment to advance towards an agreement to end the war and return the ‘captives.’
On the second day of negotiations, Egypt began discussing lists of Palestinian prisoners to be released from Israeli prisons, in addition to discussing an Israeli withdrawal mechanism.
Meanwhile, Hamas requested clarifications and guarantees regarding the implementation of the Trump plan, especially ending the Israeli extermination war, according to Cairo News quoting unnamed sources.
