Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call today, Thursday, from United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, discussing the latest developments regarding the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and international efforts to implement it.

The official spokesperson for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, stated that President Sisi reviewed with Guterres the content of the agreement reached through Egyptian-Qatari-American mediation at its various stages, emphasizing the necessity of agreeing on all details related to the implementation of the agreement and ensuring full commitment to its provisions at all stages.

El-Shenawy pointed out that the UN Secretary-General stressed the need to agree on a political path leading to the establishment of a Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, ensuring the unity of Palestinian territories between the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and the application of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

According to El-Shenawy, Guterres emphasized the importance of deploying international forces in the Gaza Strip and granting the agreement international legitimacy through the Security Council, alongside the immediate start of the reconstruction process in the Strip, welcoming the conference that Egypt will host for this purpose.

President Sisi expressed his gratitude to Guterres for his positive positions since the beginning of the Gaza crisis, confirming that Egypt has already started sending urgent food and medical aid shipments to the Strip immediately after reaching the ceasefire agreement.

He also renewed Egypt’s support for United Nations agencies, especially UNRWA, in its historic role of relief and employment for Palestinian refugees, stressing the importance of continuing its work in Gaza and the host countries of refugees.
