The Palestinian Authority welcomed the “sincere and diligent” efforts of US President Donald Trump to end the Gaza war, affirming its “confidence in his ability to find a path to peace.”
The Authority stated in a press release that it “renewed its joint commitment to work with the United States, regional countries, and partners to end the war on Gaza through a comprehensive agreement that ensures sufficient humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza, the release of hostages and prisoners, and the establishment of mechanisms to protect the Palestinian people and guarantee respect for the ceasefire and security for both parties, prevent land annexation, Palestinian displacement, stop unilateral actions violating international law, release Palestinian tax funds, lead to a full Israeli withdrawal, unify Palestinian land and institutions in Gaza and the West Bank including East Jerusalem, end the occupation, and pave the way for a just peace based on the two-state solution, where an independent and sovereign State of Palestine lives side by side with the State of Israel in security, peace, and good neighborliness, according to international legitimacy.”
The statement emphasized “the commitments made by the State of Palestine at the international conference in New York to complete the Palestinian reform program, including holding presidential and parliamentary elections within one year after the end of the war, with all candidates committed to the political program and international commitments of the Palestine Liberation Organization, international legitimacy, the principle of one system, one law, and one legitimate Palestinian security force.”
It added: “We confirmed that we want a modern democratic Palestinian state, unarmed, committed to pluralism and peaceful power transfer, as well as to implementing a curriculum development program according to UNESCO standards within two years, canceling laws and regulations that provide payments to the families of prisoners and martyrs, and establishing a unified social welfare system subject to international auditing.”
The Authority confirmed its “readiness to engage positively and constructively with the United States and all parties to achieve peace, security, and stability for the peoples of the region,” stressing “the importance of partnership with the United States in achieving peace in the region.”
